Honey Bees Control Service

What is Honeybees ?

Honeybees are flying insects closely related to wasps and ants. They are best known for their role in pollination and for producing honey and beeswax. Scientifically, they belong to the genus Apis.

Key Facts about Honeybees:

  • Scientific Name: Apis mellifera is the most common species, also called the western honeybee.
  • Colony Structure: A honeybee colony consists of:
    • Queen (only one): Lays eggs.
    • Workers (females): Collect nectar and pollen, build and protect the hive, care for the queen and larvae.
    • Drones (males): Mate with a queen and then die shortly after.
  • Honey Production: Honeybees collect nectar from flowers, which is converted into honey and stored in honeycombs as food for the colony.
  • Pollination: As bees collect nectar, they transfer pollen from one flower to another, helping plants reproduce. This makes them vital for ecosystems and agriculture.
  • Communication: They use a "waggle dance" to tell other bees where to find food sources.
  • Habitat: Found almost worldwide, honeybees live in hives that can be natural (in tree cavities) or man-made (beekeeping boxes).

Controlling honeybees depends on the situation—whether they are becoming a nuisance, posing a danger, or have created a hive in an unwanted location. Since honeybees are vital pollinators and are protected in many regions, the goal should always be safe removal or relocation, not extermination.

Safe & Responsible Ways to Control Honeybees:

1. Contact a Professional

  • Beekeepers or pest control professionals trained in bee removal can safely relocate the hive.
  • Many beekeepers will remove swarms for free or a small fee, especially if they can keep the hive.

2. Remove Attractants

  • Avoid planting strong-smelling flowers near entrances.
  • Keep sugary food, drinks, and garbage sealed and clean.
  • Don’t leave pet food outside.

3. Seal Entry Points

  • If bees are entering your home or walls, seal cracks and holes, but only after bees are removed. Sealing a hive inside can cause odor and attract other pests.

4. Use Bee-Repelling Scents

  • Scents like citronella, peppermint, garlic, eucalyptus, and cucumber peels can help deter bees.
  • Place these around areas where bees are not wanted.

5. Smoke

  • Beekeepers use smoke to calm bees. A small amount of smoke can encourage them to leave a location (e.g., if they're swarming temporarily).

6. Limit Water Sources

  • Bees seek water for the hive. Remove standing water and use tightly sealed containers.

What NOT to Do:

  • Don’t kill honeybees with sprays or poisons. It’s harmful to the environment and may be illegal in some places.
  • Don’t try to remove a hive yourself if you're untrained—it can be dangerous and provoke aggressive behavior.

If you tell me your situation (e.g., bees near a school, inside a wall, in your garden), I can give more specific advice.
